Morocco
From the first time I crossed the Gibraltar strait and stepped onto the African continent I was entranced by Morocco. The crumbling decadence of Tangier, once an exoctic destinantion for European artists and now a bustle of teahouses, markets and hustlers, was just the beginning. The mix of the indigenous Berber culture with Arabic and Colonial influences creates a dynamic and supremely colourful nation. What most impressed me most, apart from Moroccan hospitality, was how their beautiful craft and architecture is integrated in to every aspect of life. Places of inpiration for the artwork below incude the Tangier Kasbah, Dar Bouazza Beach on the outskirts of Casablanca, Chef Chaouen in the Rif Mountains and Essaouirra on the South Atlantic coast.
